Brie Jackson is an award winning journalist who joined WSLS in December 2013. Previously she served as an anchor and senior reporter for WBTW in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. While there Brie won awards for investigative and feature reporting, served as a panelist for the first-ever South Carolina 7th Congressional District debates, covered numerous breaking news stories and produced segments about important topics facing the community.

Prior to working in South Carolina, Brie served as a reporter in Maryland. One key assignment was the abduction of an 11-year-old girl. The case gained national attention as the police found girl on Christmas Day. Brie was the only reporter to provide live coverage from the scene. As a journalist, Brie Jackson has gained a reputation of being balanced, passionate and is known to ask tough questions with a smile.

Brie Jackson holds a Master’s in Journalism and a Bachelor’s in Communication from the University of Maryland. As an undergrad, she earned a full-scholarship and served as team captain for the women’s basketball team. Go Terps! Brie’s experiences in the competitive field of broadcast news, as well as, in athletics, has helped to strengthen her leadership skills as well as enhanced her ability to work effectively in a team environment and encourage others to succeed.

Brie is committed to public service and helping to improve the quality of life in the community. She served on the Board of Directors for the Grand Strand Boys & Girls Club, actively volunteered for the American Red Cross, the Grand Strand Running Club and other non-profit organizations.

On a personal note, Brie’s mother, Patricia Jones-Jackson, authored “When Roots Die”. The book celebrates and preserves the Gullah culture of the sea islands of the South Carolina and Georgia coast. Brie’s mom passed away when Brie was only 4 years old. More than 25 years after her mother’s death, Brie’s story about Gullah Basket-weavers, the same culture her mom studied, won a nationally-recognized feature reporting award.

Brie is an avid runner and has completed several marathons and half-marathons. While she can get competitive, she truly enjoys the social aspects of running and often asks others to meet her for a walk or run.
