Feature: Brittney Shipp

Brittney Shipp


Emmy-nominated meteorologist Brittney Shipp joined NBC10’s First Alert weather team in January 2013. She was previously with KTVK-3 in Phoenix, Arizona, where she was a weekend meteorologist and special assignment reporter.

In addition to her duties at NBC10, Shipp occasionally serves as a fill-in meteorologist for NBC’s  Early Today, and MSNBC’s First Look, Way Too Early and Morning Joe.

Shipp started her television career in 2006 at NBC affiliate KYMA in Yuma, Arizona. While there she reported on weather and special features for the station’s weekday morning news.

Shipp earned a degree in International Development Studies with an emphasis in Communications from The University of California at Los Angeles, where she was the recipient of the Jackie Robinson UCLA Scholarship. She later graduated from Mississippi State University with a Certificate of Broadcast Meteorology.

Shipp served as a mentor to hundreds of elementary school students in the Junior Forecasters Program at the Arizona Science Center in Phoenix, and has actively supported The Muscular Dystrophy Association and the Arizona Humane Society. She is also a member of the National Association of Black Journalists, and is currently an active supporter of Habitat for Humanity’s Philadelphia chapter.

Shipp enjoys traveling and has visited over 20 countries around the world. When not at work she enjoys exploring Philadelphia, exercising, and spending time with her pug Bella.
