Joy Redmond is excited to call the Capital City home-again. She was just a young girl when she lived in Jackson the first time around-during junior high and high school years. She’s a former Chastain Warrior and St. Andrew’s Episcopal Saint. Joy joined the FOX 40 News team September 2011.
A native Detroiter, Joy is used to “White Christmases” but says, she can totally adjust to a 90 degree Christmas holiday and is looking forward to it!
Joy’s first TV news job was in Duluth Minnesota. She was a general assignment, health, and feature reporter and the weekend anchor for KQDS in Duluth. She covered plenty of snow storms, including a blizzard in April!
During her stint there, Joy received two Society of Professional Journalists awards, including one for an investigative piece called “High in the Hallways” which exposed the truth about teens’ misuse of prescription drugs.
Joy says Duluth was a great experience, but with the shortest summer she’d ever seen, and only one mall in town, she decided it was time to head back to the Motor City.
Three months after being settled back in Motown, Joy was offered a job as the weekend traffic reporter for WJBK. “It was really a dream come true. Fox 2 was my favorite station to watch growing up; to have the chance to work with my favorite anchors and reporters was very rewarding.”
Joy brings over ten years of experience from both sides of the camera. She interned with WXYZ and WLNS, hosted various cable shows, and was the announcer for her church’s television and radio broadcast.
Joy is a 1999 graduate of the University of Michigan- a proud Wolverine, and a loyal Detroit Pistons, Tigers, and Lions fan. She says she realizes she’s in Who Dat nation now, so she’s officially a Saint all over again. And as she’s been schooled, it’s all about Friday night high school football in the Metro!
When she’s not racing down South Jefferson Street to get to work on time, Joy likes to travel, bowl, roller skate and LOVES to try new restaurants.
And she’s a serious, die-hard shopper. It’s in her blood. She’s been known to open an outlet mall up and shut it down. She’s also has a shoe-thing.
Joy has aspirations of making the gym her home away from home, but with all the great southern cooking and SWEET TEA THAT’S SERVED EVERYWHERE in Jack-town, she’s knows she’s gotta work hard at that goal!
Joy enjoys being a mom and a wife and is ALWAYS happy to meet new people, especially FOX 40 viewers. So if you see her out and about, feel free to say hi, or email her… jredmond@msnewsnow.
