Girls Trip actress and comedienne Tiffany Haddish has just become the first Black female comedian to host Saturday Night Live.
Though not new to the entertainment industry, Haddish’s big break came over the summer in her role as the feisty and hilariously vulgar Dina in hit comedy, Girls Trip, starring alongside industry veterans Jada Pinkett Smith, Queen Latifah, and Regina Hall.
As for her SNL hosting gig, it was Haddish who made the announcement via her official Instagram profile. Along with the above image, she added,
This Saturday, 11/11 on #SNL!! Can you believe I will be the very #first black female comedian host?!? #SheReady
Haddish also shared this skit while preparing for her SNL hosting gig. Check it out.
According to Haddish’s Wikipedia page, she got her start in comedy in Bill Bellamy’s 2005 comedy special Bill Bellamy’s Who’s Got Jokes?
Her breakout roles include the critically acclaimed NBC comedy series The Carmichael Show (2015–2017) as well as the action comedy film Keanu (2016), but it 2017’s hit comedy Girls Trip that propelled her career into superstardom.
The film was the #1 comedy for the summer, with the biggest opening weekend for any live-action comedy of 2017.
We here at Black Women In Media, would like to congratulate Tiffany! Well done Tiff. So well deserved, #sheready.
